Salkantay Trek 5D/4N 5 Days / 4 Nights
This is a magnificent alternative of the Inca Trail, is an attractive trek organized for trekkers who want enjoy spectacular views similar to the Inca Trail. The difference is that this rout is new and there aren’t many visitors. In this trek you can see changing landscapes; we will see ecosystems transform rapidly, beautiful snow capped mountains (4800 m.a.s.l.). You will also see landscapes of tropical forest. This is a very special trek because at the end you will visit one of the Seven Wonders of the World – Machupicchu.
Itinerary
Day 1: Cusco – Mollepata – Soraypampa
Early at 4:30 a.m., we will pick you up at your hotel to go by bus to the district of Mollepata, we will arrive at 8:00 a.m. We will have breakfast and we will get in touch with the muleteer and the horses that will help us load all the camping equipment, during the hike we will enjoy the Andean landscapes, then we will arrive to Silcakancha to have lunch; after we will pass through the foothills of the imposing Tucarhuay (5910 masl) until we reach Soraypampa. In the afternoon we will visit the Humantay Lagoon. Dinner and overnight in soraypampa.
Day 2: Soraypampa – Chaullay
This day we will start the walk very early, it is the day that demands more physical effort since we must ascend to the Salkantay pass (4600 masl), from here we will appreciate the Salkantay snow peak in all its magnitude and beauty, then we continue towards Huayracpunko where we will have lunch, on this trip we will observe the Vilcabamba chain, continue towards Chaullay. Dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Chaullay – Santa Teresa
After the breakfast we’ll continue the trek, today we will see different plants as orchids, coffee, coca leaves plantations, fruits, we’ll walk through different ecosystems observing birdlife including hummingbirds, finches, tanagers, sparrows, guans, parrots, etc. We will also see the people who live in harmony with nature. We will also see the three-level waterfall. Dinner and camp in Santa Teresa. You have the option of visiting the Cocalmayo baths.
Day 4: Santa Teresa – Aguas Calientes
After breakfast, we will continue the trek along the Vilcanota river bank until we reach La Oroya. From here we have the option to walk to Hidroelectrica or take a car (25 minutes), from this place we can see the back of the Sanctuary of Machupicchu, where we will have the last lunch with all the staff. Then we will continue walking until Aguas Calientes we will arrive at 4:30 p.m. aproximately to spend the night in a hostel.
Day 5: Aguas Calientes – Machupicchu – Cusco
After the breakfast we will continue towards Machupicchu to see the sunrise there. We will have the whole morning to relax and explore. Our guide will explain you about the wonders of this majestic place. In the afternoon we will take the train back to Ollantaytambo and take the bus to Cusco. Transfer to your Hotel.
